- Why doesn’t Modern Menus include nutritional information?
- Modern Menus has chosen to not include nutritional information because
we have found that all too often people rely solely on a specific number, such as
calorie count or amount of saturated fat, to make their meal decisions. Although
these figures are important, it is more important to eat a healthful, balanced diet.
By following the Modern Menus recommended weekly meal plan, you can be sure that
you and your family are getting dinners that are both diverse and nutritious.

How many servings does each meal serve?
- Each Modern Menus meal suggestion is apportioned for a family of
4, unless otherwise noted.

What is a "balanced and nutritious meal"?
- Our "balanced and nutritious meals" means that an average, healthy
adult or child would get a well-rounded meal that includes a complex carbohydrate,
lean protein, and some healthy fat, as well as a variety of vitamins and minerals
necessary for life. Salt, added sugars, and saturated and trans fats are kept to
a minimum. The foods do not include processed ingredients but rather those that
are as fresh as possible.
Bottom line: We aim to provide the fuel (energy or calories) and nutrients
to maintain a healthy weight and also feel good - without having to rely on supplements.
However, no ONE meal provides all the nutrients a person would need in a day. But
if a person eats like this all of the time (following the recommendations of the
Food Guide Pyramid and the Dietary Guidelines) (and this assumes not having a particular
medical condition), with the occasional sinful treat, our customers can feel they're
getting what they need and can feel good about what they're eating.
Of course, it's important to also get plenty of exercise, and avoid smoking or excessive
alcohol intake.

My family doesn’t eat at home very night. I’d like to choose a few of the weekly
meals to cook for my family. Can you offer some suggestions as to which ones I should
pick?
- Modern Menus encourages everyone to try to maintain a balanced, healthful
diet - whether that’s through cooking at home or eating out. Take a look at the
types of foods your family eats when going out. Is your family choosing pizza or
burgers? If so, try to choose meals from the Modern Menus Weekly Menu that balance
out your family’s diet, such as fish or lighter vegetarian meals. Try to limit your
red meat choices to once a week and try to choose grilled or baked courses that
don’t use oils or sauces, which you probably get enough of when eating out.
Most importantly, choose dishes that you know your family will enjoy. It’s preferable
that your family eats a healthful, home-cooked meal than picks at dinner and reaches
for the cookies afterwards.

I am a vegetarian. How can I apply Modern Menus to my meal choices?
- Each weekly menu includes at least one non-meat and one vegetarian meal. The remaining three do contain meat,
however in most cases the meal may be prepared meatless or a meat substitute, such
as tofu, may be used.

How is Modern Menus different from all the other meal planning websites out there?
- At Modern Menus, we put nutrition first. Our recipes strive to limit
processed or prepackaged foods while aiming to put dinner on the table in 30 to
45 minutes. Our staff nutritionist reviews every weekly menu to ensure that your
family will enjoy a healthful, well balanced selection of dinners. Perhaps most
importantly, the Modern Menus staff cooks and enjoys every dish prior to it becoming
a part of a weekly menu. Recipes are revised and revised again until they meet the
standards of our nutritionist and our palates, guaranteeing that your family is
set to enjoy a healthful, delicious dinner.

- Absolutely! Email your favorite recipes to recipes@modernmenus.com.
Our nutritionist will review your recipe (perhaps offer some healthful alternatives)
and Modern Menus will incorporate your recipe into our weekly menus. Don’t forget
to send us your name and city and state so that we may attribute the recipe to you.
